EV & Hybrid Specialists
While most garages will be able to look after the mechanical side of your hybrid car, when it comes to the electrical systems and the high-voltage electric car battery, it’s essential to take your car to a garage with suitably qualified technicians and where the workshop has been adapted so that any work on electric or hybrid cars can be undertaken effectively and safely.
Shaw's Service Station EV is just that garage – a specialist EV and hybrid car repair centre in Rhyl offering the full gamut of repairs and maintenance services. We carry out EV-specific repairs such as electric battery checks and repairs, and diagnosis of electrical system faults as well as repairs and maintenance to components and systems that span both electric and hybrid cars such as the steering and suspension system, tyres, MOT testing and car servicing.
Our team at Shaw's Service Station EV have all trained in working on electric and hybrid vehicles – this is so important, not only so that any repairs or servicing that they carry out are completed effectively, but also because we want our technicians to be safe in their working environment, therefore it’s essential that they can work safely with the complex, high voltage systems found in electric and hybrid cars. We also have on our team one technician who is Tesla-trained so, unlike most garages, at Shaw's Service Station EV, we can cater for every make and model of hybrid or electric car.
In recognition of our team’s hard work and training, we have gained membership of HEVRA (the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Repair Alliance) which is a UK-wide network of the best EV specialist workshops. We’re also pleased to be part of Servicesure’s EVSure network of quality, independent EV garages.
Electric cars have fewer components than a standard combustion engine car therefore, fewer things can go wrong which means that in general, you’re likely to save money on repairs. What is important is that any repairs, in particular those to the high-voltage systems, are carried out by qualified technicians such as those at Shaw's Service Station EV.
Yes, once your EV is over three years old, it will have to pass the annual MOT test just like any other car. The MOT test for electric vehicles covers pretty much the same as the standard MOT test such as checking the lights and tyres etc but of course, the emissions and exhaust parts of the test are not relevant.
Absolutely, we work to a very high standard at Shaw's Service Station EV and stick to the manufacturer’s recommended specifications for all repairs and servicing so that any warranty left on your car will remain valid.
It very much depends on what is wrong with the battery and how serious the issue is. If the problem is a damaged connection or perhaps a faulty battery cell, then these can usually be repaired. More serious problems can be costly but it’s worth bearing in mind that batteries are usually covered under the manufacturer warranty. Whatever you do, make sure to take your car to a specialist EV repair centre such as Shaw's Service Station EV, for any battery issues as battery repairs should only be attempted by properly qualified and experienced EV technicians.
Many people choose to have a chargepoint installed at home which is probably the easiest option. There are however, more and more public charge points available should you need to charge your EV while you’re out and about. You can usually find chargepoints in public car parks, supermarket car parks and of course, at motorway service stations. If you’re not sure where your nearest charge point is, you should be able to locate it on the map below.
Affiliated with the two foremost and most respected EV networks in the country – Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Repair Alliance (HEVRA) and Servicesure’s EVSure, Shaw's Service Station EV is a name that you can trust when it comes to repairing or servicing your hybrid or electric car.
